Your best leaders spend most of their time helping everyone else think. This senior leadership retreat in the Scottish Highlands (Roffey Park calls it a leadership walkshop) gives senior leaders space to think for themselves, away from meetings, inbox and the constant demand for answers.
Cost: £7,950
You don’t need another programme.
You need space to think.
THE PROBLEM THIS RETREAT SOLVES
The people everyone else turns to for answers rarely get asked the harder question: who challenges them?
Leading at this level usually means being pulled into every operational fire, making complex decisions with little time to reflect and holding things together for everyone else. Sometimes the problem isn’t your thinking, it’s where you’re trying to do it.
Space + distance + disconnection + peer challenge = clearer thinking and better leadership decisions.
First cohort planned for April 2027

WHY A RETREAT AROUND WALKING?
This isn’t a trip to the Highlands, and it isn’t a leadership course with a change of scenery. No slides, no classroom, no fixed curriculum. The walking, the landscape and the distance from your usual routine are the mechanism, not the point. It’s this format Roffey Park calls a leadership walkshop.
- Environment – distance from meetings, inbox and familiar surroundings changes how you think, not just where you do it
- Walking – moving side by side alongside peers tends to open up more honest conversation than sitting around a table
- Disconnection – stepping away from constant availability protects the space to think deeply, not just less time on screens
- Peer challenge – a small, curated group who test your thinking, not just listen to it
Who is this retreat for?
Less about job title, more about situation. This tends to suit senior leaders who are:
- Leading significant change or transformation
- Stepping into greater responsibility
- Constantly pulled into operational issues
- Making complex decisions with little time to reflect
- At an inflection point in their leadership or career
- Looking for challenge and perspective from outside their own organisation
In practice, that tends to map roles such as Directors, Heads of Department, senior HR/OD/People leaders, Business Unit or Service Directors, Associate Partners, SME MDs and charity CEOs – though situation matters more here than title. It also suits founders moving into a next chapter and leaders weighing up non-executive or portfolio paths.

Benefits
Places are intentionally limited, so we can bring together a small group of senior leaders who can genuinely challenge, support and learn from one another.
Before confirming a place, we will have a short conversation about your current leadership challenge, what you’re looking for, and what you’d bring to the group – less an application process, more making sure the fit is right for you and the cohort you’d be joining.
If more than one person from your organisation is interested, that’s worth discussing directly. We protect the openness of each cohort carefully and a dedicated organisational walkshop may suit multiple attendees better.
The walkshop is built around:
- Peer consulting and challenge – a trusted space to test your thinking, supported by facilitation and coaching
- A group-shaped agenda – focused on what matters most to you and your cohort, decided as you go
- Personal reflection – building awareness of your presence, influence and sustainability as a leader
- A systemic view of complexity – engaging directly with organisational dynamics and uncertainty
The aim isn’t to add more knowledge. It’s to deepen understanding and turn it into action you can actually take.

The Journey
Senior leaders are contending with fast-moving geopolitical shifts, changing societal expectations, new technology reshaping the landscape, and real pressure around sustainability – while being expected to offer direction and reassurance, often without certainty themselves.
Those pressures aren’t going away. What’s changed is how little space is left to think them through properly. The time needed for genuine reflection and sound judgement keeps getting squeezed out of the diary. This retreat exists to protect that time properly – and you leave part of the wider Roffey Park leadership community, not a one-off event.
THE HIGHLANDS SETTING
The retreat is held in the Scottish Highlands, chosen deliberately for its distance from the everyday and the room it gives senior leaders to think without interruption.
