Hear what our alumni say about the MSc.

After completing the MSc in 2015, I took on a wider remit with organisational development central in it.  This was in recognition of a major OD intervention I led, sponsored by the Chief Executive, to co-create our values with staff, patients and carers and to then improve staff and patient experience.  My ability to lead this was due to the confidence and knowledge I gained through the MSc.  The programme took me out of my comfort zone but at the same time provided high levels of support and safety to experiment and grow.  Even after the programme has ended, its principles of self-managed learning have given me the skills to continue to challenge my practice and learn.

Angela Hayday, Associate Director of Organisational & People Development, Royal United Hospitals Bath

Although I don’t work directly in an organisational development role, I wanted to undertake this MSc. As a leader in a large engineering consultancy, the MSc seemed the perfect way to build on my existing leadership and management skills with a deep understanding of people, groups, and how to develop them to help my organisation thrive.

I’m so glad I made that decision! The MSc has revolutionised my work, and I now have a great new role. My learning experience at Roffey Park transformed my understanding of organisations. I now work well in ambiguity, and with partial information, and I can  construct much more persuasive arguments – useful when dealing with clients, staff and other leaders in the organisation. I also developed my understanding of group dynamics – unseen webs of power and meaning that underlie the conversation taking place. That has helped me challenge issues more effectively, by separating what is being discussed from what is going on under the surface. In short, the MSc illuminated areas that allow me to get the very best results by working with other people. It was better, and more useful, than I ever dreamed it could be.

I felt more confident; the HR function can often be overlooked but I felt as if I had more of a voice in the company. What it taught me above all is how to analyse a situation, pull it apart, dig into the details, and make a more grounded decision. Not only that, but my career progressed significantly, as evidenced by a move from Dell to Motorola whilst studying, and most recently joining Palm. I’m convinced that the MSc on my CV was essential in making that next step in my career and I would not hesitate to recommend Roffey’s MSc programme.
