Dr Robert F Coles, Chief Executive Officer

Dr Robert Coles has been deeply involved with human development over many years, most recently as the Co-Founder and Chair of The Centre for Alternative Leadership & Management -Place of CALM™, an academic research collaboration, think tank and consultancy. Prior to this, Robert has held directorships of three Executive Education practices and, in addition, was the European Director for one of the world’s ‘next 4’ global audit, accounting and consulting organisations. He has worked alongside many blue-chip organisations developing board and senior leadership teams, designing joint ventures from a relational and dialogic practice perspective, and developing his ideas and practices around Collaborative Competence™. He is a graduate of the University Oxford and Leicester, and holds a Ph.D. in Collaborative and Confucian Leadership, and post-graduate degrees in Cross-Cultural HRD , and Organisational Leadership. His continuing research interest is in collaborative mechanisms for promoting interdependent leadership and management, utilising AI tools. He is an Honorary Visiting Fellow in Post-Crisis Leadership and Management at the University of Leicester.

Nigel Dean, Head of Commercial Operations

Nigel has a wealth of experience within the hotel and hospitality sector having graduated from the Concord Hotels Management training scheme. He was part of the opening management team for the now famous Groucho Club in London which was followed by a long stint in the City of London finishing as Group Operations Manager for Balls Brothers Restaurants and Wine Bars. Nigel is Director for the commercial side of the organisation, Roffey Park Services Ltd and is responsible for our conference, meeting and special event clients. He also leads a 30 strong team responsible for residential sales, catering & hospitality, premises facilities and grounds management. He has a great love of food and wine and is a member of the Champagne Academy. Nigel has also championed our work with Carers UK and involved with several other charitable initiatives. He chairs our environmental group which introduced our revolutionary ground source heating system to Roffey Park and has achieved the 14001 environmental accreditation.

Simon de Winter, Head of Finance

Simon joined Roffey Park in February 2012 as Head of Finance and is an ACCA qualified accountant with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Kent. After leaving University Simon spent his early working years within the WPP Plc group eventually as Financial Director of one of their subsidiary companies, before getting married and travelling around Australia for several months before settling in Sydney where he re-joined WPP, gained Australian citizenship and started a family.  After 7 years Simon  returned to the UK and, after a few temporary positions, joined Roffey Park.

Caroline Disano, Head of Programme Delivery and HR

Caroline joined Roffey Park in 2006 having previously worked for the Priory Healthcare Group leading an HR function, and has held senior posts within Financial and Professional Services in both operational and senior HR roles. Caroline is Chartered MCIPD with an MA in Personnel and Development. During her career, Caroline has led a number of change programmes, and project managed organisational restructures, OD interventions, and led on a new secure hospital facility opening. At Roffey Park she has led on many projects such as the design and implementation of our bespoke CRM system, Sunday Times Top 100, being instrumental in us achieving Top 100 status in 2013 and 2015. Working across the business she leads the HR service and Programme Delivery teams, supports our Associates, and has responsibility for Dynamics CRM which manages processes across the business.

Amanda Humphrey, Director of Support Services and Company Secretary
MBA, BA(Hons), FCIPD, Cert Ed, FRSA

Amanda was previously Business Planning Manager for Sussex Ambulance Service NHS Trust, ensuring that continuous improvement plans were developed, implemented and shared with all staff. Prior to this, she was Group Operations and Personnel Director at Fruitful Fundraising, with responsibility for a major expansion programme across the UK, Ireland and the USA. Her earlier career was with the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux where she was an Area Development Officer for the South East. At Roffey Park, Amanda is responsible for HR, legal, finance and operations and leads our entry into the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work for survey.  She was responsible for establishing our Singapore company, including locating our new office and recruiting local staff. In 2014 she spent a week in Swaziland, Africa, mentoring a small business and was also shortlisted by ICSA as one of the top contenders for Company Secretary of the Year, Not for Profit.

Ken Ingram, Head of Practice

Ken has been a learning and development consultant and facilitator for more than 25 years. Before joining Roffey Park, Ken worked for a number of organisations in a learning and development capacity including the National school of Government, Centre for Management and Policy studies and Civil Service Learning. He has broad expertise across a wide range of fields.  In particular, he majors in leadership and management development, facilitations skills, adult learning and evaluation. Ken has passion for blended and adult learning and has focused much of his career on helping individuals and organisations to develop their learning design and facilitation capability.  Ken is Course director for our Personal Effectiveness and Power Programme and is also responsible for Roffey Park’s blended learning strategy and has much experience of developing and implementing online learning solutions.

Tom Kenward, Head of Qualifications
BSc, MSc

Having spent twelve years in consultancy and people development then management and leadership in the public and charity sector, Tom joined Roffey Park as a consultant in 2012. Since then Tom has won or developed over fifteen custom accounts across the public, private and nfp sectors in the UK and overseas. His main work is in designing and delivering challenging developmental approaches that blend leadership development with organisation development methods. Tom also leads the MSc in People and Organisation Development and two open programmes – Leading with Presence and Clear Leadership. Tom’s responsibility on the Management Team is for Roffey Park’s academic qualifications across all programmes.


Janice McBrown, Head of Marketing and Business Development
BA (Hons)

Janice is a senior marketing professional with extensive experience across all marketing fields including digital marketing, PR, content marketing, branding and strategic planning.  At Roffey Park Janice leads the marketing and business development team and is responsible for Roffey Park’s open programmes and events.  Prior to joining Roffey Park, Janice held a number of marketing roles in the pharmaceutical, publishing and professional services sectors. She has a degree in Business Studies.

Alex Swarbrick, Head of Roffey Park Asia Pacific
MPhil, BSc, Dip PCP (Psychology), Chartered FCIPD

Based in Singapore, Alex is an experienced manager, consultant, facilitator and executive coach, combining a strong HR background with over 15 years in leadership development and coaching. Recent clients include scientific research organisations, banking and financial services, and Singapore public service. Before moving to Singapore, Alex was Programme Director of Roffey Park’s Personal Effectiveness programme and our HR Business Partner Skills programme.  He has a particular interest in the relational aspects of leadership, and intercultural leadership, having run leadership programmes in over 20 countries. Alex is a business graduate with an MPhil from London School of Economics in organisation design and skill use. A qualified Executive Coach (University of Strathclyde), he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Construct Psychology (UKCP), is Level A + B trained in the use of psychometrics, trained in FIRO B and Hogan, and has an Advanced Diploma in Intercultural Management from Cambridge University.

Julia Wellbelove, Head of Research

C.Psychol. MSc, BSc.

Julia holds a Masters degree in Occupational Psychology from The University of Nottingham and is a Chartered Psychologist.  Julia has worked with a wide variety of public and private organisations and has a strong track record of providing research-led solutions to clients that add insight, value and have impact.   Julia has a wealth of experience in the design and delivery of qualitative research formats and is an experienced interviewer and focus group facilitator.  Before joining the research team at Roffey Park, Julia ran her own consultancy business specialising in designing and delivering bespoke assessment & development solutions for clients, providing executive & skills coaching and competency development.  She is qualified to use a variety of psychometric instruments, including culture instruments, personality questionnaires (OPQ, 16PF, MBTI) and ability tests.
