Are you authentic? Are you true to yourself, your values?
Does your vision and presence command trust, respect and
attention? Or, in these challenging times do you need to
reconsider – maybe reinvent yourself – in order to get people
to follow?
This is a unique opportuntity to explore, appreciate and embrace the issues of authenticity and presence during a period when for many their leadership will be tested to the full.
Now, more than at any time in recent memory, it is the authentic leader with true presence that captures the imagination, commands attention and leads effectively. To engage with colleagues in testing circumstances and positively motivate their actions through your own presence, requires a deep understanding of yourself, your own potential and your ability to influence others. But where does this presence come from and how can it be harnessed to positively lead others?
Credibility, genuineness and authenticity are characteristics that followers want from their leaders. But authenticity requires a willingness to take risks and be completely present in a situation. It means learning what really matters to you and being willing to share your aspirations and dreams with others. That involves learning to be more fully present. In other words, it requires mindfulness.
This masterclass will combine presentations from Ruby Wax and mindfulness expert, Michael Chaskalson, followed by practical exercises, led by Peter Hamill, including individual techniques, plus small and large group interactions, that will help you explore your own capabilties and potential; help you reveal your own authenticity. Ruby shows how, in a very short space of time, leaders can come to a deeper and more
direct level of communication with their people, clients and colleagues. The day will combine humour with scientific and theoretical learning and practical exercises.
Michael begins by describing the scientific research that currently underpins mindfulness. He then leads participants in a number of exercises. As part of this presentation, Michael shows the link between mindfulness and leadership: leaders, to be successful, need to be aware of themselves, others and the world around them. They also need to connect emotionally with their people. Mindfulness is about being yourself and being present: right here, right now.
Peter will explore congruence between mind and body, and introduce practices for developing an embodied leadership presence.

Masterclass speakers
Ruby Wax

Yes, that’s right – the Ruby Wax.The fast-talking comedienne, famous for her celebrity interviews on primetime TV shows, has swapped comedy and acting for the world of leadership and development. Having originally studied psychology as a teenager at Berkeley, before embarking on her career as a comedienne and TV presenter, Ruby has turned full circle and over the last five years retrained as a psychotherapist, gaining an MSc in Psychotherapy at Regent’s College and is currently studying Neuroscience at UCL.
She will share her personal journey and explore issues of authenticity and presence through the science and practice of ‘mindfulness’, and by drawing parallels between her own experience and that of all of us – whatever role we hold in an organisation – who wish to be ourselves in our work and be true to our values. Ruby has famously interviewed celebrities from Pamela Anderson to Imelda Marcos. Now she’s coming to help you take an honest look at your own values and how you can be true to them at work. If you are serious about exploring your own authenticity and how this affects your ability to lead an organisation or team then this is an event you should not miss. With top teams from Woolworths, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Skype, BAe Systems, McKinsey and KPMG currently on her books, Ruby is fast becoming a hot property in the business world too.
