Developing the skills and knowledge for effective OD practice
Organisational Development (OD) is a planned, holistic approach to improving organisational performance. It is now a significant and influential field of practice that is used increasingly in organisations to deal with issues such as: managing dynamic and complex change, putting people at the heart of their organisation, determining mission, values and strategy, introducing new systems and processes, restructuring and enhancing leadership and employee morale. OD is not exclusively the province of HR: managers from a wide range of functions including finance, marketing, operations and IT are increasingly realising the benefits of OD.
This highly practical programme will equip you with a core understanding of what OD is, with practical OD tools and techniques; it will improve your skills and provide you with greater awareness of self and group process.

Programme content
Module 1: OD from the Inside Out
The focus of this module is on the field of OD and on strengthening your impact, capability and influence as OD practitioners. Sessions include: What is OD?, OD Consultancy, ‘The Self as Instrument’ and Organisational Diagnosis.
Module 2: Understanding the Organisation
This module looks at organisations and how they work through a variety of lenses so that you can intervene as effectively as possible. Sessions include Organisational Mental Models, Culture, Group and Organisational Dynamics and Organisational Design.
Module 3: Tools for Transformation
This module focuses on OD and interventions for change, with particular emphasis on change in complex, fast-moving environments. There are sessions on Models of Change, Large Group Interventions, Appreciative Inquiry and Storytelling as a change method. This module also includes an afternoon of workshops where participants choose the subjects to work on.

Module 4: The Future of OD
This module is focused on enabling participants to integrate their learning from the previous modules, and to move into purposeful action. Your skills will be tested and honed as you participate in a challenging business simulation through which you will develop the confidence and embodied knowledge necessary to be effective OD practitioners. Module 4 also focuses on the role of OD in creating organisations capable of facing the challenges of a changing environment, enabling you explore and learn new tools at the cutting edge of OD.
Sessions include:
- Doing OD: business simulation focused around some of the critical issues facing today’s organisations
- The role of OD in creating trust and integrity within organisations so they are fit for purpose in today’s turbulent world
- Contemporary thinking and new trends: where is OD going?
- Innovative OD tools and techniques such as OD and the arts, creating meaningful work
